About SSC Exams

Staff Selection Commission (SSC) is an organization under Government of India which recruits staff for various posts in the various Departments of the Government of India and in Subordinate Offices. SSC currently functions as a self-governing body that is chiefly engaged in conducting competitive exams for recruitment to various posts in the SSC departments. Previously, SSC has conducted various examinations - SSC Combined Graduate Level Examination (SSC CGL), SSC Combined Higher Secondary Level Exam (SSC CHSL), Junior Engineer, Hindi Translator, Stenographer, Selection Post, Central Police Organization, SSC GD Constable, SSC Multitasking, and Scientific Assistant Post.

SSC CGL

SSC CHSL

SSC JE

SSC conducts SSC JE exam every year for various departments such as Military Engineering Services (MES), Central Public Works Department (CPWD), Central Water Commission (CWC), and Department of Posts (India Post), etc. Salary of SSC CHSL ranges from Rs. 32,000 - Rs. 37,000.

SSC MTS

SSC conducts the SSC MTS (Multitasking Staff) in two main stages – Common Test and descriptive paper. After clearing these stages, the candidate will get selected for General Central Service Group ‘C’ Non-Gazetted, Non-Ministerial posts in various Central Government Ministries/Departments/Offices, in different States/Union Territories. Salary of SSC MTS ranges from Rs. 16,000 - Rs. 20,000.

SSC GD

SSC GD is one of the popular posts which carry the responsibility of strengthening our internal security in general. It comes under Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) which discharges multifarious responsibilities, the most important among them being - internal security, border management, Centre-State relations, administration of Union Territories. Salary of SSC GD ranges from Rs. 21,000 - Rs. 23,000.

SSC CGL Tier-4 Exam is a Computer Skill Test. It will be conducted in two steps: DEST Test & CPT Test.

DEST:- Candidates are required to type 2000 words in 15 minutes on a computer in English. This test is conducted to check a candidate's writing skills.

CPT:- This test is conducted to check a candidate's proficiency in Word Processing, Spreadsheets and Generation of Slides.

SSC CGL Examination Tier II Syllabus 

Tier II exam consists of the following sections - Quantitative Ability, English language, Statistics, and General Studies. Each section consists of 200 marks and time allotted for each section is 2 hours. As you can see, the syllabus of Tier I and Tier II are almost same but the Tier II exam is much difficult to crack.

Tier III exam is conducted in an offline mode. This is a descriptive paper in English or Hindi. This section generally includes essay writing, formal letter writing, informal letter writing, etc. It carries a total of 100 marks and total time allotted is 60 minutes.The time allotted for candidates belonging to PWD category is increased to 80 minutes.

SSC CGL Examination Tier IV Syllabus 

Tier-IV examination comprises of couple of skill sets required for certain Government Posts all over the country.

DEST ( Date Entry Speed Test ) : For the post of Tax Assistant (Central Excise and Income Tax),DEST Exam through SSC CGL 2018-19 exam is conducted to check the typing speed of the candidate. The candidates are given an article in English which they have to type on Computer. A candidate is required to type 2000 words in 15 minutes.

CPT ( Computer Proficiency Test ): Word Processing, Spread Sheets and Generation of slides are the three modules that are important for this exam and the commission demands a candidate to be proficient in it for the post of CSS, MEA, Inspector (Central Excise), Inspector (Preventive Officer), Inspector (Examiner).
Tier-I and Tier-II exam is compulsory for all posts mentioned in the SSC CGL 2018-19 Notification of while Tier-IV exam is taken by candidates applying specifically for TA, CSS, MEA and Inspector.
